Roller Snake: The Quest for Chili Dogs

Control “Hardy the Hoop Snake, Jr., III, IV, and V” in his quest to eat as many chili dogs as possible while winding through ‘Catastrophe Canyon’

Tilting the Windows Phone helps Hardy the Hoop Snake dodge obstacles through the random level and eat chili dogs. Tilt the phone left or right to move Hardy horizontally. Tilt the phone up and have Hardy form a tighter hoop to go faster. Tilt the phone back to have Hardy unfurl to become a bigger slower hoop than can traverse over some obstacles. The attack will have Hardy whip his tail out to smack any hen in the way.

When playing again you will see that another hoop snake is there, it is a clone from your last playthrough. This hoopsnake will damage you if touched and can pick up powerups before you. The 5 best runs are saved and the scores combined from those runs will be the players ranking score. Those 5 best scores will always be on the track making you dodge them and race them for the powerups and collectibles.

Low Power

Description

Low Power is a game where in order to survive you must hasten your own death.  You control a robot whose battery is constantly draining but there are valuable energy cores scattered throughout the level that will sustain your life.  There are all kinds of dangerous environmental hazards that unless you enable your sensors/abilities (lights, shield, ground sensor, microphone) you’ll never survive.  However enabling the different systems will drain your battery even faster.

Screenshots:

You have three weapons at your disposal:

  • Single shot – the default weapon
  • Spread shot – Three times the fun
  • The Lazër – A beam weapon that goes to 11

You progress thru the weapons as you collect powerups dropped by fallen enemies.

Once the meter is at least half full, you can activate the lazër, which fires until your reserves are depleted.

Scoring

  • Bullets will fly around and around forever, so watch out for crossfire from your own shots.
  • Earn more points by hitting adversaries with shots that have been flying for a long time.
  • Death is transient on the world snake, both you and your adversaries will eventually respawn.
  • Make as many points as you can during the time limit to earn your place in the frequent fliers club.

Global Game Jam on Friday

It’s almost jam time.

Participants are encouraged to arrive starting around 5:00 PM. This will give you time to set up your equipment and meet fellow jammers. When you arrive there will be volunteers available to help you set up and direct you to the proper facilities. Please sign in at this time so we can confirm your arrival at the jam.

Schedule

The Global Game Jam will be held from 6:00 PM Friday (Jan. 27th) to 5 PM Sunday (Jan. 29th). The event will start promptly at 6 PM with a quick introduction and keynote presentation, followed by pitching ideas, discussion and team building.

This year Joystick Labs will be open the full 48 hours over the weekend. While we appreciate the enthusiasm of all participants we highly encourage people to not attempt to stay up the full 48 hours and go home every night to sleep (honestly, 8 hours of sleep and 12 hours of development will almost always produce more / better stuff than 20 hours of development).

On Sunday, development will end at 3 PM. At this time participants must submit their games. We will finish up the jam with presentations from each team and time to play all the games. We’ll also be glad to help out with video capture if anyone wants to put something up on Youtube/Vimeo. After final presentations, all participants must break down their setup and remove all their equipment promptly from the venue.

Friday 27th
5:00 PM – arrive at Joystick Labs, setup
6:00 PM – introduction and discussion
7:00 PM – development time

Saturday 28th
Full day of development

Sunday 29th
2:30 PM – preparing game submissions
3:00 PM – presentations
4:00 PM – break down

Hardware

Participants must provide their own computer setup for the Global Game Jam (desktop or notebook). There will be no computers available for people who do not bring their own equipment. Both wired and wireless internet will be available, but there are a limited number of wired spaces available. If you require wired internet, please try to bring a long Ethernet cable for maximum flexibility in seating.

Software

We will have a SVN server setup to use as a source control repository.

People have typically used XNA, Flash, UDK, or Unity in the past. If you already know you have a preference for one, please try to install it and get it setup ahead of time on the machine you intend to bring to the jam. The same goes for artists or musicians with their preferred tools of choice. We also have a list of some other interesting software for jams on the site: Tools and Libraries.

A representative from Microsoft will be around on Friday (maybe thruout the weekend, details TBD) as well to talk about developing for Windows Phone and the Imagine Cup.

Thanks again to all participants and I’ll see you on Friday!

Weekend of Mass Destruction

Global Game Jam 2011 Page

Your name is Arklon Blutenberg, and this is your first weekend off in 300 years. You have a lot of pent up aggression, a lot of nuclear weapons, a couple cases of beer and 48 hours to destroy as many planets as you possibly can. The overall goal is to cause planets to go completely extinct by sucking the planets dry of resources and nuke-ing them. Once you have destroyed a planet you will then move on to another planet and continue to rain down fire from the heavens. Points will be awarded for destroying targets on the globe and you can use your tractor beam to collect resources.
